Anthropic's certification program has set a date for its first content update. According to the Claude Certification Program page on Pearson VUE, which delivers the exams, three of the four Claude exams will include updated content starting on December 7, 2026, and updated exam guides will be available on November 17, 2026. If you are preparing for one of those exams, the date of your appointment now decides which version you take. Here is what has been announced, what has not, and how to plan around it.
Which exams change on December 7
The update covers three exams:
- Claude Certified Associate, Foundations (CCAO-F)
- Claude Certified Developer, Foundations (CCDV-F)
- Claude Certified Architect, Professional (CCAR-P)
The fourth exam, Claude Certified Architect, Foundations (CCAR-F, also written CCA-F), is listed on the same page but is not named in the update notice. Nothing has been announced that changes it, so its current exam guide remains the reference.
What is known, and what is not yet
The notice is short, and it is worth being precise about what it says. It gives three facts:
- the updated content applies from December 7, 2026
- the updated exam guides will be available on November 17, 2026
- if you plan to test on December 7 or later, you should use the updated guide to prepare
It does not say what will change. The domains, their weights, the number of items, the time limit and the passing score are all described in the current guides, and none of them has been announced as changing or staying the same. Until the new guides are published, any list of specific changes is a guess. We will update this post once the guides are out.
If your exam is before December 7
You are taking the current exam, so the current exam guide is your syllabus. When the new guide appears on November 17, read it for interest, but do not let it pull your study time away from the scope you will actually be tested on.
For the Developer exam, Section 6 of the current guide (CCDV-F) weights eight domains, and Applications and Integration alone is 33.1% of the exam. Our four-week CCDV-F study plan turns those weights into a schedule, and the CCDV-F exam guide page summarizes the current format: 53 items in 120 minutes, including multiple-response items.
If your appointment falls close to the change, check the date carefully and settle it well in advance. Our step-by-step registration guide covers how appointments work.
If your exam is on or after December 7
Prepare from the updated guide. It will be available on November 17, which leaves three weeks before the first exams on the new content. A sensible way to use that window:
- Compare the two blueprints first. Put the current and updated domain lists side by side and mark what is new, what moved and what changed weight.
- Keep what still applies. Work you have already done on topics that remain in the blueprint still counts.
- Spend the new time where the weight moved. A domain whose weight went up deserves more of your remaining hours than one that stayed the same.
If you are still choosing between exams, our comparisons of the Developer and Architect exams and of the Associate and Architect exams describe each exam as it stands today. We will revisit both once the new guides are published.
If you are preparing for the CCAR-F
The Architect, Foundations exam is not part of this update. Its current guide describes 60 items in 120 minutes across five domains, led by Agentic Architecture and Orchestration at 27% (Sections 3 and 4 of the guide, CCAR-F). Your preparation plan does not need to change. A good starting point is the free CCAR-F diagnostic, which scores you by domain.
If you already hold a credential
A credential you have already earned stays valid for its 12 months. Both Foundations guides add one condition worth knowing: if exam content changes significantly, Anthropic may require holders to retake the full exam to recertify rather than complete the free renewal assessment (Section 14 of the CCDV-F guide, Section 15 of the CCAR-F guide). The December notice does not say whether that applies to this update, so watch for notices from the program as your renewal date approaches. Our guide to how renewal works covers the normal process.
What we are doing with our practice banks
- CCDV-F: our CCDV-F practice bank is written to the current exam guide, the one that applies to exams taken through December 6. When the updated guide is published on November 17, we will compare every question against it and update the bank for exams from December 7. Everyone enrolled keeps lifetime access and receives the update.
- CCAR-F: the exam is not part of this update, so our 500 CCAR-F practice questions continue to follow its current guide.
You can try the Developer bank's style now with the free 10-question CCDV-F sprint, which needs no account. We will update this post when the new guides are published on November 17.
