How Long Is the CCA Foundations Exam?

The CCA Foundations exam has a 120-minute (2-hour) time limit for 60 scenario-based multiple-choice questions — an average of two minutes per question, though that average hides a lot of variation.

Some questions are short and direct; others describe a multi-paragraph architecture, prompting, or tool-design scenario and ask you to pick the best of several plausible-sounding options. Those longer scenario questions tend to cluster in the exam's higher-weighted domains — Agentic Architecture & Orchestration alone makes up 27% of the exam — so it's common to spend noticeably more than two minutes on some questions and well under a minute on others.

That makes pacing a real factor, not just a formality. A rough approach that works for most candidates: triage on the first pass — answer everything you're confident about quickly, flag the longer scenario questions, and come back to them with whatever time you've banked. Our exam-day strategy guide covers pacing and what the testing session itself looks like in more detail.

To get a feel for your own pace before exam day, our free 10-question diagnostic (about 5 minutes) uses the same scenario-based format, and our full 60-question, 120-minute simulation replicates the real exam's length so you can practice under realistic time pressure.
